The facility employs 45 staff and will supply around 400,000 concrete sleepers per year to infrastructure manager Network Rail (NR).
NR decided in 2009 to commission a new sleeper factory because its annual requirement for between 700,000 and 1 million sleepers was being met by just two facilities, one of which, the Tarmac precast plant at Tallington near Peterborough, has since closed.
Trackwork Moll is a joint venture between Doncaster-based sleeper supplier Trackwork and Leonhard Moll Betonwerke, Germany.
