The order is an option from a framework contract awarded to Newag in December 2015 for up to 15 trains, which included an initial order for five sets for suburban services on the Bari - Taranto line.
Newag says it expects to sign the contract for the second batch by the end of February, with deliveries taking place within 18 months.
