SMB-Winning initially ordered two DF8B diesel locomotives in November 2019 followed by an order for another 14 3.28MW ac heavy-haul diesel locomotives a month later.

Ground breaking for the new railway took place on March 29 2019. The line, which will have 23 bridges, two tunnels and six depots, will connect a bauxite mine at Santou with Dapilon port and is expected to open in June 2021.
