LG intends to use the funds to acquire three dmus, six emus and 590 wagons, including 150 tank wagons, 140 open wagons, 100 covered vans and 200 flat wagons. According to the EIB, the wagons will be equipped with low-noise brake blocks.

"We must constantly renew our fleet because failing to do so will leave us with few serviceable vehicles in 5-6 years' time," says Dailydka.

The EIB has already provided LG with a €40m loan towards the upgrading of 310km of track on the line between the port of Klaipeda and the Belarusian border, and a further €43m to finance the acquisition of 34 new ER 20 CF diesel locomotives from Siemens.
