THE Turkish Directorate of Railways, Harbours and Airports Construction (DLH) has awarded a consortium of and Spanish civil construction company OHL and Invensys Rail Dimetronic a Euros 1bn contract for infrastructure and electro mechanical work on the Marmaray project in Istanbul.
OHL, which has a 70% share of the contract, will increase the number of existing tracks on the existing line from two to three, renovate and construct 36 stations, build 130 structures, renew the electrification system, and install two operation control centres and depots.
Dimetronic will be responsible for equipping the line with both ERTMS and CBTC systems, for freight and passenger services respectively, which is the first time that ERTMS and CBTC will be applied on the same line.
The contract encompasses the design, supply, tests, and commissioning of Futur 1300 Level 1 ERTMS, and Sirius CBTC trackside equipment. The contract includes a new signalling system, including Westrace electronic interlockings, train detection systems, LED wayside signals, Rail 9000 centralised traffic control (CTC), and the telecommunication and Scada systems for the entire project. It also includes a two-year maintenance agreement with an option for a five-year extension.
Construction of the first phase of the Marmaray project - the tunnel under the Bosphorus - is scheduled for completion by October 29 2013, the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey.
