The project will create 120 new jobs and enable the facility to service 30% more trains. Around 75 trains per day are currently inspected, cleaned and maintained at the depot.

DB Long Distance is investing around €500m in its maintenance facilities to improve the performance and quality of IC and ICE services. Most of the operator’s nine depots are being expanded under the programme.

In addition to new facilities, short-term measures are also being implemented to enhance fleet performance. DB says its new maintenance regime for locomotive-hauled long-distance trains, whereby trains are kept in fixed formations, has significantly improved reliability.
