KAZAKHSTAN Railways (KTZ) has signed a framework agreement with CRRC which includes the purchase of 200 mainline and shunting locomotives, organisation of rolling stock maintenance centres in Kazakhstan and setting up an engineering centre.

CRRC has pledged to invest around $US 200m in the new engineering facilities in Kazakhstan.

The deal was signed on October 17 during a meeting between the Kazakhstan president, Mr Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Mr Sun Yongcai, chairman of the board and executive director of CRRC.

CRRC has been working with KTZ for around 20 years and has supplied the national railway with more than 6000 freight wagons and around 300 passenger coaches and locomotives.
