The Zlotys 268.5m ($US 69.6m) offer from Modertrans Poznań beat competing offers from Pesa and Stadler. A bid from Turkish manufacturer Bozankaya was disqualified for failing to comply with the tender requirements.

The new Łódź MZK LRVs are due to be delivered between March and September 2022. The new order is part of the EU funded “Tram for Łódź” project, which also involves the modernisation of 11km of the network along with the depot.

Modertrans Poznań is an LRV manufacturer owned by Poznań public transport company MPK Poznań. The company has been modernising and refurbishing older trams for 13 years and in that time has rebuilt over 400 trams for multiple operators in Poland.

The company launched its first new build LRV - a five-section prototype of the Moderus Gamma - in 2016 and was awarded a contact from MPK Poznań for 50 three-section versions, comprising 30 uni-directional and 20 bi-directional vehicles, which are currently being delivered.

In March 2018, Katowice-based Tramwaje Śląskie ordered 10 13.5m-long single-car Gamma trams for delivery by mid-2020, with options agreed for another five vehicles.
