The funding from the Federal-State Partnership for State of Good Repair Program will be used to acquire new coaches to replace the oldest vehicles currently used on the route.
The funds will also support upgrading of train maintenance facilities in Charlotte and the introduction of higher frequencies. Three round-trip Piedmont services currently operate daily between Raleigh and Charlotte serving seven intermediate stations on the 278km route.
