PRAGUE Transport (DPP) has selected Škoda Group as the winner of a tender to supply up to 200 uni-directional low-floor LRVs under a framework contract worth Koruna 16.6bn ($US 720m).

Stadler was the only other bidder for the contract with a bid of Koruna 17.765bn. Appeals against the contract award are open until November 25 at which point DPP is expected to sign the framework contract with Škoda. It will initially order 40 trams from this contract, with the first 20 scheduled for delivery in 2025 and another 20 following in 2026.

The selected ForCity Plus design is the latest evolution of the supplier’s ForCity platform. The 32m-long, double-articulated vehicles have capacity for 220 passengers, including 60 seated. DPP will present the final design of the new trams after the appeals period has lapsed and it signs the contract.

The contract also includes support and development of the vehicle’s onboard software, licensing of the onboard fault diagnosis software, technical documentation, training of DPP employees and 10 sets of spare parts.

In addition, Skoda will supply eight extra bogies to enable the movement of trams at DPP facilities, and two emergency bogies or undercarriage equipment that will enable transport of an idle tram to the DPP service facilities in the event of a fault.
