The trains are being built by Transmashholding subsidiary Demikhovsky Machine-Building Plant (DMZ).

Roslokomotiv has already supplied seven four-car and one six-car train in June, and will supply four four-car trains in July and August, with two four-car trains each in September and October, taking the total delivery to 14 trains consisting of 60 cars.

The new trains are expected to operate on the Volga, Southeast and Gorky railways.

The EP3D consists of more than 90% of domestic components. The trains are equipped with passive safety systems, air-conditioning with disinfection, passenger information and environmentally-friendly toilets. The trains are designed for passengers with reduced mobility, and the end cars are equipped with lifts and fixtures for wheelchairs, while information signs are duplicated in Braille.
