The order comes after Transdev subsidiary NordWestBahn (NWB) was selected by Lower Saxony Transport Authority (LNVG) as preferred bidder for a new 14-year contract for the network which the company currently operates.

Following the completion of the order, Transdev’s German fleet will comprise a total of 118 Flirt trains in various configurations.

The 86.9m-long four-car trains will have seven passenger doors on each side to minimise station dwell times. The trains have capacity for 527 passengers, including 260 seated.

The 160km/h EMUs are fitted with an accessible universal toilet and a standard toilet, and are accessible and fully step-free. The multi-purpose areas can carrry up to 30 bicycles, bulky luggage and pushchairs.

The trains will also be equipped with power outlets for charging e-bikes, wheelchair places, Wi-Fi, and a real-time passenger information system.

The fleet is due to enter service with the introduction of the December 2022 timetable.
