Budamar received the first two locomotives in Bratislava on March 15, and the third unit on April 13. The two remaining locomotives are currently under construction.

The order is a step-change in Budamar's strategy as it previously only leased locomotives for rail freight services in central Europe.

The multi-system locomotives will support the forwarding and logistic company’s cross border services between Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia as well as in Slovakia.

Mr Peter Malec, chairman of Budamar Logistics management board, described the purchase as a “logical step” and says the company is negotiating with Siemens over further locomotive purchases but that he was not ready to reveal details just yet.

Siemens recently celebrated the sale of the 900th Vectron unit since 2010 with an order from German rail freight operator Metrans.
