A ceremony held at DFC New Kishangarh station to flag off the first train was attended by Mr Anurag Sachan, managing director of Dedicated Freight Corridor Company of India (DFCCIL), as well as senior officials, staff and contractors.

The Rewari - Madar section includes nine newly built DFC stations as well as 16 major bridges and viaducts and 270 minor bridges and can accommodate double stack electrified operation at 100km/h. Work on the section cost Rs 39.18bn ($US 550m).

DFFCIL is aiming to start full commercial operation on the adjoining 650km stretch of the new line between Palanpur and Rewari in March 2020.

The 1534km Western DFC runs from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai to Dadri near Delhi and will largely cater for container traffic from existing and emerging ports in Maharashtra and Gujarat to terminals in the northern hinterland.
