Since January, RheinCargo has been providing shunting services and infrastructure operations at steel group ArcelorMittal’s Prosper coking plant, where coal and coke is transported by rail on a 30km network. RheinCargo has also taken charge of ArcelorMittal’s operations on the rail network in the port of Bottrop, where coal is delivered by barge and then transported in freight wagons.

“We received several requests for further projects in the last few months,” says RheinCargo's managing director for rail freight transport, Mr Wolfgang Birlin. “That's what made us decide to establish the new business unit.”

The new division will be developed and managed by Mr Peter Jacobs, who was previously responsible for RheinCargo’s railway operations in Neuss, near Dusseldorf. “Large companies in industry and logistics often operate extensive rail networks,” Jabcobs explains.

RheinCargo will be responsible for operations such as loading and unloading, shunting and transport, along with infrastructure management including maintenance and constriction.
