The wagon on display is one of 200 twin grain hopper wagons built for and now in service with the launch customer, a US Class 1 operator.

The hopper wagon is a variant of previous systems developed for coal and aggregate hopper wagons and features four loading speeds depending on the angle of the opening mechanism: 25% load, 50%, 75% or 100%. The twin hopper system offers a faster dispensing time of two-and-a-half-minutes for a 25% load compared with around four-and-a-half-minutes for a three unit hopper.

At 16.13m the wagon is shorter than conventional grain hoppers but with the same payload, enabling a railway to increase the number of wagons hauled in a train. Trinity is targeting the grain export market for the new wagon, due to the demand for high volume grain shipments.
