Bucharest secures EU funds for metro Line 5

EUROPEAN commissioner for regional policy Mrs Corina Crețu announced on October 3 that the European Union (EU) will provide €251.8m through the Cohesion Fund to finance the initial phase of Bucharest metro Line 5.

Due to open in June 2018, the 6.7km 10-station line will run from an interchange with lines 1 and 3 at Eroilor to Râul Doanmei in the western district of Drumul Taberei.

The journey time between the terminus stations will be less than 15 minutes.
