NORWAY’s national rolling stock owner, Norske Tog (NT), has issued a call for tender for a mid-life upgrade of its fleet of Type 72 EMUs.

The fleet comprises 36 four-car trains each formed of two motorised cars and two trailers. The trains were designed by Pininfarina, Italy, manufactured by AnsaldoBreda, and delivered between 2002 and 2006. They were the first low-floor trains to operate in Norway.

NT says the EMUs have now reached the mid-point of their useful life and require an overhaul and upgrade to bring them up to modern standards and to meet the comfort needs of passengers.

Closing date for bids is December 18.
