At present just over half the Irish Rail network does not have any form of train protection and the existing ATP and Continuous Automatic Warning System (Caws) are almost life expired.

The new ATP system, which will be installed during the next seven years, will be a hybrid based on IE’s existing systems and ETCS Level 1. The new system will provide automatic train stop and ensure that trains adhere to line speeds and temporary speed restrictions.

DB will provide safety management consultancy services, Egis will be responsible for systems integration, and CPC Project Services will manage the project.
