Under the contract, the joint venture will produce detailed plans for the electrification of 500km of line across Estonia 1520mm-gauge rail network at 25kV ac.

The plans will cover all relevant aspects of the project including the specification of overhead catenary systems and traction substations to be implemented.

At present, only the Tallinn - Aegviidu section of the Tallinn - Tapa line is electrified, at 3kV dc.

The project is intended to improve the capacity and ecological impact of the network and will also support Estonia’s integration into the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
