The $N 1.029bn ($US 67.5m) project, called A1S1, is part of the Namibian government’s plan to become a transport and logistics hub for southern Africa. The project is being funded 56% by the Namibian government, and 44% through a loan from the African Development Bank.

CGGC was awarded the 27-month contract in December 2019.

The Qingjian GroupCo and Unik Construction Engineering joint venture has been awarded a contract to upgrade the line from Arandis to Kranzberg.
