SPAIN’s high-speed infrastructure manager Adif AV has awarded Thales a €11.6m contract to design and install signalling, train protection, traffic control, and communications systems on a 1.74km link between Almodóvar del Río and La Marota to the west of Córdoba.

The link will create the western part of a triangular junction between the Seville - Córdoba and the Córdoba - Málaga/Granada high-speed lines. This will enable high-speed trains travelling from Seville to Málaga or Granada to avoid having to reverse at Córdoba, thereby reducing journey times.

The new bypass link will enter service as soon as the works are completed. Thales has been given 17 months to complete the installation.
