ROLLING stock leasing company Alpha Trains has ordered 12 Euro 9000 locomotives from Stadler, the first time it has ordered this locomotive type. The six-axle multi-voltage hybrid locomotives will be delivered in 2025 and 2026.

The German Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV) provided €15m towards the purchase.

The Euro 9000 can operate under 15kV 16.7Hz ac, 25kV 50Hz ac and 3kV dc electrification, providing 6.2MW, and is also equipped with a 2.8MW diesel engine for a total output of 9MW.

Alpha Trains already owns a fleet of 121 locomotives and 162 trains supplied by Stadler.

European Loc Pool

Swiss-based rolling stock leasing company European Loc Pool (ELP), which solely leases Stalder Euro 9000 and Euro Dual locomotives, has concluded a contract to lease a second Euro Dual locomotive to Flex Bahn Railway Services of Germany for 10 years from January 2025. The contract was signed two months after the freight operator began operating its first Euro Dual, which is also leased from ELP.

Nordic Rail Service (NRS) has also signed a contract to lease a second Euro Dual from ELP.
