The order, which is worth around €20m, was agreed in late 2012 and the first unit was delivered to BC that year.

The 1520mm-gauge locomotives are derived from the 1435mm Czech Class 709 design eight of which are in use in the Czech Republic with several operators and which has previously been exported to ZS in Serbia, which operates 15 units.

The locomotives for BC were assembled in Lida, Belarus, from kits supplied by CZ Loko. Each 46-tonne locomotive has a 403kW Caterpillar CATC15 engine and a traction inverter supplied by Siemens combined with ac traction motors.

BC will use the locomotives in pairs for yard shunting, replacing older and less fuel-efficient units.
