The contract, which is worth more than Zlotys 518.9m ($US 132.3m), includes seven electric  locomotives equipped with diesel access modules, which are due to be delivered by the end of the year, and 24 dual-voltage locomotives which will be delivered in two batches between 2021 and 2022.

The locomotives, which can operate on both 3kV dc and 25kV 50Hz ac systems, will be certified for international operations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The six-axle E6ACTa Dragon 2 locomotive is designed for heavy freight operations, and has a high tractive force due to its weight, anti-slip system and all-wheel-drive. The locomotive complies with European Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI 2014) and is equipped with ETCS level 2.

The locomotive is equipped with silicon carbide (SiC) traction converters, which improve reliability at high temperatures and reduce noise.
