The current contract is valued at approximately Zlotys 112m ($US 30m).

PKP Cargo says the Vectron enables the company to provide international connections without the need to change locomotives when entering or leaving Poland.

“Thanks to them, PKP Cargo can certainly build a competitive advantage not only in Poland, but also across Europe,” says Siemens Mobility Poland CEO, Mr Krzysztof Celinski.

The 6.4MW multi-system Vectrons have a maximum speed of 160km/h and are equipped with ETCS.

The locomotives are approved for operation Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary.

PKP Cargo ordered 15 locomotives under the initial contract, which was signed in September 2015.
