The Smartron is based on Siemens’ successful Vectron platform, and shares many proven features of its predecessor, including the cab layout.

The Smartron is offered in one 140km/h 15kV ac variant with a maximum output of 5.6MW and PZB/LZB train protection. This means Smartron comes with a standardised purchase contract and enables the supplier to offer customers short lead-times. Fleet maintenance is also available as an option using Siemens’ Railcover service.

Siemens says the Smartron has already received authorisation to operate on the German network and is available for trials with operators. The manufacturer is now accepting orders, with deliveries set to start in late-2018.
