The locomotives will be used to haul oil trains from refineries owned by Tüpraş, the parent company of Körfez Ulaştirma, doubling the operator's existing locomotive fleet.

The six-axle locomotives were assembled by Tülomsaş, Wabtec’s strategic business partner in the region, at its plant in Eskisehir.

The PowerHaul is compliant with European TSIs and EU Stage IIIa emmissions standards. Power is provided by a 16-cylinder 2.76MW PowerHaul P616 diesel engine with common-rail fuel injection.

Körfez Ulaştirma began operating in December 2017 with a fleet of five diesel locomotives leased from Turkish State Railways and 439 wagons owned by the company, as well as a number of leased wagons.

“We have been working to increase the speed and productivity of our logistics as we expand our operations,” says the operator’s general manager, Mr Tufan Başarir. “Now that we have five powerful new locomotives added to our fleet, we are able to move goods between Tüpraş Refineries and the fuel terminals more efficiently and better meet our customers’ needs.”
