The 12-cyclinder 1520mm-gauge locomotives will be produced as kits by GE plants in Grove City and Erie, Pennsylvania and shipped to Kazakhstan for final assembly at LKZ's plant in Astana.

LKZ has assembled locomotives under license from GE since 2009 and the 43,000m2 Astana plant has capacity to build up to 100 units per year.

GE already has orders for 410 Evolution Series diesels from KTZ, including 110 passenger locomotives ordered in September this year. In addition LKZ has assembled Evolution Series locomotives for Mongolia and GE hopes to certify the design for use in Russia in the first half of next year.
