Copenhagen's metro was used by 50 million passengers in 2009, with its 12,000 daily services achieving a 98.6% punctuality rate. It was recognized as the World and Europe's Best Metro by industry experts in 2008 and the Best Driverless Metro in 2009. The two-line, 20.5km system serves Copenhagen city centre as well as the municipalities of Fredericksberg, and Tårnby, and Copenhagen Airport.
Ansaldo STS wins Euros 180 million contract to maintain Copenhagen metro
ANSALDO STS has won a Euros 180 million five-year contract from Metroselskabet to maintain and operate Copenhagen's driverless metro system. The latest contract, which includes an option for an additional three years, continues Ansaldo's 14-year partnership with Metroselskabet which began in 1996 when the company won a tender to provide engineering, systems integration, rail electrification equipment and vehicles for the metro, and continued when Ansaldo was selected to manage the network when it opened in October 2002.
