KordaMentha postponed the search for interested buyers due to the recession, but it says the company is now performing well and has invited indicative bids with the aim of completing a sale by the end of June. FreightLink had a 50-year build-own-operate-transfer concession on the 1414km Darwin - Alice Springs line, which was completed in 2004, together with a sublease on the existing 830km Alice Springs - Tarcoola section, which opened in 1980. FreightLink had already decided to sell the line in May 2008 but went into administration that November after failing to reach an agreement with creditors on the terms of the sale. Freight and passenger services have continued to operate since FreightLink went into administration, although the line is currently closed north of Alice Springs after flood waters washed away a section of track for the second time in two months.
