DB Regio plans to buy up to 36 new EMUs that must be in traffic by the end of 2025.

A tender notice issued at the start of September states that up to 28 EMUs will each have at least 420 seats and that up to a further eight EMUs will have at least 660 seats per train.

DB Regio hopes to award the contract starting by May 31 2022. The notice also states that two financing models are planned.

The tender also says that additional requirements may have to be met by the contractor depending on whether a newly-developed design or one based on an existing platform but with significant changes is procured.

Applicants must also show evidence of at least two different types of EMU operating in Germany, the EU or Switzerland in the past five years that have been successfully approved for local rail passenger services.
