The contract encompasses the operation of 1.5 million train-km per year on the following routes:

  • Strasbourg - Barr - Molsheim - Selestat (650,000 train-km/year)
  • Strasbourg - Molsheim (200,000 train-km/year), and
  • Strasbourg - Molsheim - Saales - Saint-Die-des-Vosges - Epinal (650,000 train-km/year).

Train services were replaced by buses between Saint-Die-des-Vosges and Epinal in December 2018 to allow upgrading of the line.

With the exception of the Epinal - Arches section, none of these lines are electrified and all services will be operated by diesel trains provided by the Grand Est region.

The winning bidder must provide ‘complementary bus services’ on all routes.

The contract is due to start in March 2022 and will run for 8-15 years.
