The new vehicles will operate on the Zeytinburnu - Kabatas and Zeytinburnu - Bagcilar lines and are the first batch of 37 LRVs ordered in a Euros 73 million deal that was signed in September 2007. The remaining vehicles will enter service over the coming weeks.

istanbul-citadis.jpgThe new LRVs will complement existing low-floor vehicles operating on the Zeytinburnu - Kabatas line and will replace high-floor LRVs previously operated on the Zeytinburnu - Bagcilar line. This route serves Istanbul's historic Golden Horn district and transports approximately 250,000 passengers per day. The new Citadis LRVs will operate in pairs and can transport up to 500 passengers.

Meanwhile Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) is preparing to begin testing its new Alstom Metropolis metro vehicles on the under-construction line between Bagcilar, Ikitelli and Olympic Village. The order, signed in August 2007, was for 20 four-car trains each with a capacity for 1234 passengers. The vehicles were delivered between October 2008 and February 2010.
