The Indian consortium of Rites and Ircon International failed to meet
the deadline for completion of the project and the government cancelled
its contract earlier this year.

Nonetheless, CFM is confident the project will soon be completed.
Speaking at a coal industry conference in Maputo recently, chairman Mr
Rosario Mualeia said the 240km Sena - Moatize section was nearly
complete, and work has already finished on the remainder of the line to
Beira.

Meanwhile on July 4, CFM reintroduced passenger services between Maputo
and Goba, near the border with Swaziland, after an eight-year hiatus.
The train runs on Mondays and Fridays, completing the 75km journey in
two hours.
