The agreements were signed today at the Forum 1520 congress in Sochi by RZD president Mr Vladimir Yakunin, Dr Hans-Jörg Grundmann, CEO of Siemens Mobility, and Sinara Group CEO Mr Dmitry Pumpyansky.

The 160km/h trains will be built at the Ural Locomotives facility in Verkhnyaya Pyshma near Yekaterinburg with production beginning in 2013. RZD says the level of local content in the trains should reach 80% by 2017.

At its site in Krefeld, Germany, Siemens has recently begun production of an initial batch of 38 Desiro Rus trains, which were ordered in December 2009 and will be delivered to Sochi in time for the 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. A second tranche of 16 trains was ordered September 2010 and these will be assembled in Russia. The total value of these two contracts is Euros 580m.
