While SCI says the fall in demand for freight traffic is having a negative impact on the sale of locomotives and freight wagons - growth in locomotive sales is not expected to resume until 2012 - growth for passenger rail products remains on course. Investment in railway infrastructure is benefiting in many countries from economic stimulus packages.
The fully-updated study, entitled The Worldwide Market for Railway Technology 2009-2014, is available now. It is SCI's fourth global study of the railway equipment market since 2003 and takes account of worldwide trends such as urbanisation, global trade, scarcity of resources, and environmental protection which SCI says will all stimulate demand for rail products.
