Initially, Alstom will supply 100 of its Coradia Polyvalent trains under a Euros 800 million contract for delivery between 2013 and 2015. SNCF says it plans to exercise an option for another 35 trains soon which would increase the value of the initial contract to Euros 1 billion.
Coradia Polyvalent is a modular single-deck train powered by permanent magnet motors which can have either an electric or a hybrid traction system. The 160km/h train is dual-voltage (25kV ac and 1.5kV dc) for operation in France, and can be equipped to run on lines in Germany and Switzerland electrified at 15kV ac. The low-floor train can be supplied in three lengths (56m, 72m, or 110m), and for operation on suburban, regional, or inter-city services.
