Testing is now underway and the first trains will enter revenue service
in December on the Upper Hutt line. Matangis will be introduced on all

The new trains are part of the Wellington
Regional Rail Programme, a joint project between Kiwirail, Ontrack,
Tranz Metro and Greater Wellington Regional Council. The $NZ 550
million project includes power supply upgrades, new track, and platform
modifications to accommodate the new trains.
