Eight TBMs are currently constructing 10 separate tunnels for Crossrail, with Phyllis' sister machine Ada in the Holborn area at present having also started its journey from Royal Oak. Work on this section is expected to be concluded in winter 2014, while the rest of the tunnels are also expected to be completed next year with each of the TBMs currently extracting on average around 100m every day.

Crossrail says that the final pre-cast concrete ring for the tunnels was cast at its temporary concrete segment factory for the western tunnels at Old Oak Common this week, while it added that 21.4km of the 42.8km of tunnelling required for what is at present Europe's largest infrastructure project is now complete.

The new east-west cross-city line will increase London's rail capacity by 10% and is expected to carry over 200 million passengers a year when it opens in 2018.
