Anaheim has already accumulated $US 24.6m towards the cost of the $US 319m project, and expects to qualify for federal funding. The project would also benefit from Measure M2, a half-cent local sales tax for transport projects in Orange County.

The plan is opposed by Anaheim Mayor Mr Tom Tait and other councillors have questioned the solidity of the funding plans and the potential operating costs involved. However, a majority of councillors was satisfied with the studies, which included evaluations of other transport modes such as bus and monorail.

The line would run east-west from Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (Artic) to Angels Stadium, GardenWalk shopping centre, and Disneyland, before terminating at Anaheim Convention Center. Artic is served by Amtrak and regional rail services on the Los Angeles – San Diego –San Luis Obispo corridor.
