The €59.3m project involved the construction of a 3.8km branch with four new stations off line T2 from Les Alizés which serves the district of Bron before curving around the perimeter of Lyon-Bron Airport to reach the Eurexpo exhibition centre.
T5 services share tracks with Line T2 between Grange Blanche and the junction at Les Alizés. The line has a commercial speed of 23km/h with trams running at 10-minute intervals and an 18-minute journey time between the termini. Services are operated by a fleet of Alstom Citadis 302 low-floor LRVs, and the line is expected to carry around 10,000 passengers per day.
A 1.7km extension from Eurexpo to Chassieu-René Cassin is due to open in 2014 at a cost of €25.7m.
