Vossloh Kiepe is responsible for traction equipment and engineering, power inverters, control systems, and air-conditioning. Vossloh Rail Vehicles' share includes bodyshells, bogies, and interiors. The contract includes options for two additional vehicles.

The 37m-long 100km/h vehicles will seat 94 passengers. They will enter service in 2014 on the Chemnitz – Burgstädt – Hainichen and Chemnitz Mittweida lines, operating under 600/750 dc electric power on tram lines in the city centre and in diesel mode on heavy-rail lines. The introduction of tram-trains on these lines is the first stage of a planned 226km network, which will eventually encompass the lines to Thalheim, Niederwiesa, Oberfrohna, and Oelsnitz.
