Two sections totalling 4.7km will be rebuilt to double track as part of the electrification project. Lin speeds will also be increased enabling the introduction of a half-hourly service replacing the current hourly service. Electrification is expected to be complete by 2027

Hessen will fund €11.8 million of the planning costs.

DB Regio currently operates the line with many services extended to and from Frankfurt am Main. Class 642 Desiro DMUs operate most services with class 245 Traxx ME locomotive-hauled double deck push-pull sets used for peak hour services on weekdays.

Work to four-track the Bad Vilbel - Frankfurt line is underway and is due to be completed in 2023.
