The tender will cover the operation of 6,326,000 train-km annually from December 2024 to December 2039 on three routes:

  • RE 1 Hannover main station - Norddeich Mole/Wilhelmshaven
  • RE 8 Bremerhaven-Lehe - Hannover main station
  • RE 9 Osnabrück main station - Bremerhaven-Lehe

LNVG is currently tendering for new double-deck EMUs to operate the services. All prospective operators will be mandated to use this fleet, including the maintenance contracts.

DB Regio currently operates most of the network with DB-owned Traxx locomotives and double-deck coaches. The line to Wilhelmshaven is currently operated by NordWestBahn using DMUs, but this is being electrified. As part of the existing contract, regional ticket holders are permitted to use DB inter-city services west of Bremen on the route to Norddeich Mole.
