ITALIAN State Railways (FS) has launched the Cadore Express overnight train connecting Rome with Calalzo near the ski resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo.

The journey takes approximately 10 hours. The train departs Rome Termini at 21.40 and arrives in Calalzo at 07.57 the following morning. It makes intermediate stops in in Orte, Orvieto, Treviso, Ponte nelle Alpi, and Longarone-Zoldo. A connecting bus from Calalzo station takes passengers to the centre of Cortina d'Ampezzo in 50 minutes.

The train has sleeping cars with single and double-berth cabins, as well as couchette coaches with six-berth compartments. A restaurant car and bar is open for the entire journey, and breakfast is served in the morning.

The basic single fare starts at €160 per passenger in a six-berth compartment, progressively increasing to €610 for exclusive use of a compartment. The bus connecting Calalzo with Cortina costs €10 extra.

The Rome - Cortina service operates at weekends. The first trip was on December 15 2023, and the new service runs until February 25.
