PRAGUE public transport operator DPP has selected a consortium of Hochtief, Subterra and BeMo Tunnelling to build the second section of metro Line D, running for 3.3km section from Olbractova to Nové Dvory.

The contract is worth Koruna 30bn ($US 1.3bn). Tunnels for the second section of Line D will be excavated using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) and there will be two intermediate stations at Nemocnice Krč and Nádraží Krč.

There were three bidders for the contract, including one consortium led by Porr and a second headed by Strabag.

Unusually, DPP has stated that the bids were submitted with inexplicably low prices, shortcomings in qualification requirements and errors in project planning. The tendering process was extended to provide an opportunity for corrections and amendments, but this did not lead to errors being remedied and DPP would have been exposed to unacceptable risk

Furthermore, DPP has complained that the during bidding, members of its board of directors, supervisory board, general council and evaluation committee for Line D were exposed to undue pressure and even threats.

DPP has announced that it is taking legal action and states that such behaviour will not be tolerated.

Work on Line D started in early 2022 and is scheduled for completion in 2029. Construction is taking place in four phases, two of which are currently being implemented, and is expected to cost a total of Koruna 98bn.

Line D will connect Náměstí Míru with Olbrachtova and will be 11km long with 10 stations. There will be an interchange with Line A at Náměstí Míru and with Line C at Pankrác.
