THE Trust for the Development of the Dominican Republic’s Mass Transport System (Fitram) has awarded the SIF Consortium, led by Alstom and including Sofratesa, a €500m contract to build a monorail line in Santiago de los Caballeros, in the north of the Dominican Republic.

The 13km fully automated line, which will have 14 stations, will connect the northwest and southeast areas of Santiago de los Caballeros. The line will be designed to transport up to 20,000 passengers per hour per direction.

Alstom will be responsible for system integration, testing and commissioning of the full system and the supply of 13 four-car Innovia 300 monorail trains, a Cityflo 650 Grade of Automation 4 (GoA4) CBTC driverless signalling system, conductor rails, high-speed interchange switch systems and depot equipment.

Alstom will also install a Hesop reversible power supply system which reduces the number of substations required and enables up to 99% of train regenerative braking energy to be fed back into the network.

Alstom’s share of the contract is worth around €370m. The project is being financed by the French government.
