The contract was awarded by the infrastructure owner Infra. To, which itself is owned by the City of Turin.

Tecnimont's share of the contract is worth €30.5m with Siemens having the remaining €17.1m. The work involves installing the systems required to operate the VAL trains automatically, modifications to the train control system, and updating the operating certificate for the line. Siemens will also conduct systems integration tests.

Line 1 is being extended south from Lingotto to Italia '61 and Bengasi and the new section is due to open by the end of 2015.
