The investment is part of the government’s ten-year rolling stock strategy, which it says will support retention of around 100 direct jobs at Bombardier’s Dandenong factory in Victoria, and 500 jobs in the local supply chain.
The three-section four-bogie articulated trams are based on Bombardier’s Flexity Swift product platform.
Each vehicle accommodates more than 200 passengers.
